Mölnlycke Health Care has successfully expanded to become a global provider of single use surgical and wound care products.
But in Europe, their expansion resulted in a patchwork of local solutions and agreements, leading to a less than perfect distribution network. That is why Mölnlycke Health Care decided to simplify and modernise their logistics setup.
Mölnlycke Health Care believes that delivering their entire product range within 48 hours across Europe is critical to their business plans. To reach their goal, Mölnlycke Health care worked with DSV to develop and implement a clear strategy with several discrete phases.
Creating a single point of contact
A mix of local transport partners hindered uniform solutions and led to excessive administration for Mölnlycke Health Care. To create a single point of contact, DSV was asked to handle transport in some countries and take ownership of the rest - letting Mölnlycke Health Care concentrate on the larger picture.
“Simplifying our logistics setup has been our first priority. With DSV we have created a uniform, simple yet flexible system with just one point of contact,” says Magnus Wätteräng, EMEA Logistics Director, Mölnlycke Health Care.
Efficient and transparent storage and delivery
The old system used many warehouses close to major markets, but some of the warehouses did not have sufficient traffic or facilities to handle the high-end medical equipment and supplies that Mölnlycke Health Care produces.
To overcome the challenge, DSV consolidated the warehouse setup: Large warehouses in Sweden, Belgium and France now act as regional hubs, while smaller warehouses in strategic locations act as regular outlets for scheduled deliveries. The change has resulted in the ability to sell and ship both price sensitive products and high-service solutions to more customers with greater ease.
“We can now deliver medical equipment and services very quickly, efficiently and with full transparency to hospitals and clinics. We are saving money outbound and inbound, have cut down on our storage needs and only ship what we sell.” says Magnus Wätteräng.
